OLDER DRIVERS IN MANITOBA

Manitoba Possible is a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking down barriers to full and equal participation through a diverse range of programs and services. They offer 15 program areas serving children, youth, and adults with disabilities across three Winnipeg locations and six regional offices throughout Manitoba; creating an inclusive and accessible society for all.

An accessible parking permit ensures that when a person has difficulty walking more than 50 metres, they can park in one of the specially designated accessible parking spots in lots across the province. The Parking Permit Program is regulated by Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure and administered by Manitoba Possible. As of 2024, the parking permit costs $15. Permanent and temporary permits are available. Permanent permits are valid up to three years before renewal. Temporary permits are issued based on a certified healthcare professional and vary in expiration dates. To obtain an accessible parking permit in Manitoba, a healthcare professional must apply on your behalf. Contact your primary healthcare provider (doctor, nurse practitioner, chiropractor, occupational therapist or physiotherapist) to begin the online application process.

Health Care Directive allows a person to make their own decisions about the amount and type of health care and treatment they want to receive, should they become unable to communicate. The Health Care Directives Act allows a person to name another person to make medical decisions for them, should they become unable to make the decisions themselves.

Provincial Primary Caregiver Tax Credit
- The Primary Caregiver Tax Credit provides recognition and financial support to individuals who serve as primary caregivers for more than 90 days.
